Common setups
| Setup | What it is | Things to check |
|---|---|---|
| Inflatable or pop-up tub + ice | Portable tub, cooled with ice | Ice cost and effort; insulation lid; drainage |
| Tub + chiller unit | An electric chiller holds a set water temperature | Lowest listed temperature, power draw, plug and voltage, noise, filtration |
| All-in-one plunge | Insulated tub with built-in chiller and filter | Footprint and weight when full, indoor or outdoor rating, warranty |
Practical points
- Water is heavy (about 1 kg per litre), so check floor loading for indoor use.
- Filtration, sanitising and lids matter for keeping water clean.
- An outdoor chiller needs a weather rating and suitable electrical protection (e.g. an RCD/GFCI).
Some people use cold water immersion as part of their routine. Cold exposure carries risks, so see the disclaimer below and get professional advice first.
